How Is Personalised Rock Candy Made?
Personalised rock candy is made by hand-pulling boiled sugar syrup into long ropes, then embedding a name, message or logo through the very centre using a traditional technique before it's stretched, rolled and cut into pieces. At Roc Candy, we've been doing this the old-fashioned way since 1999, handcrafting every batch in Australia — no printing, no stickers, just sugar shaped by hand so your words or design run all the way through.
If you've ever cut into a stick of seaside rock and wondered how the letters get right through the middle, the answer is patience, heat control and a lot of hand-pulling — a genuinely old confectionery craft, and one of the reasons personalised rock candy still feels special as a wedding favour, corporate gift or party treat.

How do you get a name or logo right through the middle of rock candy?
This is the part people ask about most. We boil a sugar and glucose syrup, add the flavour and pour the syrup onto a cooling table. Then the colours are mixed — one becomes the outer casing, others for text or logo. The inner parts of the candy are stretched (to make opaque) and then each component of the design is then hand shaped into long, thin strips that form the letters or logo shapes. Finally pieced together like a giant 3D puzzle.
Once the design is constructed an outer layer (jacket) is wrapped around the whole design and then extruded. As the log stretches, the lettering shrinks proportionally with it, which is how a name the size of your forearm ends up legible in a piece of candy the size of a coin. It's a skill that takes years to get consistent, and part of why handmade rock candy has stayed a genuine craft rather than a mass-produced product.
What ingredients go into personalised rock candy?
Our candy uses a simple base: sugar, glucose, flavours, colours, citric acid and a light dusting of soy wax on the pouring table to prevent the sugar syrup from sticking to the table. There's no dairy, gluten or nuts in the mix, and 98% of our ingredients come from Australian suppliers.
Is personalised rock candy suitable for different diets?
Yes. Our custom boiled lollies are vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and Halal certified — an easy option for candy favours when guests have dietary needs.
Who makes handmade rock candy in Australia?
Roc Candy has been handcrafting personalised rock candy since 1999, in WA, and shipping free Australia-wide to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart and regional areas. Every piece is made by hand, batch by batch — no production line, which is part of what makes each order genuinely custom.
I want to buy branded candy for a corporate event. How does the logo get inside?
Logo candy uses the same lettering and pulling principle as text candy, just with more intricate shaping. Simple shapes, initials and short logos translate most cleanly. Send through your logo and we'll talk you through what will work at candy scale.

Planning Your Personalised Rock Candy Order
Step 1: Decide how you'll use it
Wedding candy for favours or a lolly buffet, corporate candy for a trade show, or personalised lollies for a birthday or baby shower — this shapes quantity and packaging.
Step 2: Choose your message or design
Names, initials, a short message or a logo. Text designs allow one to 14 letters, with up to 16 characters possible for two names but will read smaller.
Step 3: Match your colours and flavours
Colours and flavours are independent, so you can go bold — green raspberry or yellow watermelon. Popular flavours: passionfruit, watermelon, wildberry, strawberry and raspberry. One batch means one flavour; multiple flavours mean multiple batches.
Step 4: Choose your packaging
Bags, jars and labels are all available, priced separately from the base design. Jars keep candy at its best for over two years unopened; bagged candy is best within six to 12 months.
Step 5: Order with enough lead time
Personalised orders take approx 3 weeks to produce by hand. Enter the date you need the candy delivered by, not your event date, and allow at least seven days before the event. Urgent orders within two weeks can often be accommodated with a 10% surcharge.
> Tip: The more intricate the design, the more strips need hand-pulling and aligning — simple are generally translate better within the candy. If you are unsure please contact usand we can talk you through options.

Frequently Asked Questions About How Personalised Rock Candy Is Made
Is the lettering printed onto the candy afterwards?
No. There's no printing or stickers — the lettering is hand shaped and pieced together so the words or logo run all the way through every piece, just like traditional seaside rock.
How long does it take to make a personalised batch?
Approx 3 weeks from confirmation to delivery, covering boiling, colouring, lettering, pulling, cutting and packaging by hand.
Can Roc Candy match my exact brand or wedding colours?
We hand-mix colours and match as closely as possible — select "custom" from the colour palette when designing your candy or send us a colour swatch.
Is handmade rock candy safe for vegan, halal or gluten-free guests?
Yes. Our candy is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and Halal certified, so it suits most dietary requirements without a separate batch.
Why does rock candy stay fresh for so long?
It's essentially boiled sugar with very low moisture, giving it a naturally long shelf life — over two years in an airtight jar, or six to 12 months in a bag before texture starts to soften.
